Hard to believe that last week’s walk was cancelled due to
heavy rain This week summer has finally
arrived with temperatures mid 20s. Good
turnout of 13, including Jan doing her first walk with the group since her
accident in January.
We last did this walk as a group in January 2010. You can see the blog of that walk by clicking
on 2010 under Blog List on the right, and then select Label 03. Sad to see many faces of old friends who can
no longer walk with us.
The dry river bed was longer and more difficult than I had
remembered. Clambering over the large
rocks was a good challenge for Jan after her enforced rest.
Pat is a hard task master, and we were only allowed a short,
though well deserved, water break when we reached Smugglers Cove.
Then it was up the steep climb to reach the coastal
path. Difficult enough going up, but
far more dangerous coming back down again.
The view of the bay from the top is pretty impressive,
though Tom looks too preoccupied to take advantage of it.
The coastal path is mostly easy walking, and offers great sea
views
But it is very exposed on such a hot day, so we had to find
a shaded spot for our banana stop
Jan was a little apprehensive about this walk, and it was
more difficult than we had remembered it to be, but she managed it well and
enjoyed walking with the group again
When we were last at this beach it had suffered extensive
storm damage, and required a lot of work to repair it. The car parks and sea wall are now all
repaired, but there was still work in progress on the beach. As a result it was difficult to find a quiet
spot for lunch. But the sea views made
up for the noise
Then it was back uphill to return along the coastal path
At one point the path goes through a short tunnel, which
requires taking care to avoid a bump on the head.
Jan managed quite well and with a little help from a wrist
support even managed to use her weak wrist to help over the more difficult
sections. After this strenuous walk she
feels confident to take on Monday walking again.
13 May 2013
This will be David’s last walk before he and Rosemary return
to UK for the summer, and he has offered to lead a new circular walk from
Lliber to Senija. Meet in the car park
in the centre of the village at 10am
