Only
seven of us for the last Monday Club walk of 2013
This
circular walk from Lliber to Font Axia is our traditional Christmas walk. It is often the last walk before we have a
break for Christmas and New Year
The weather forecast was overcast and possible rain, but we
were fortunate to start the walk in bright sunshine, though very cold.
As we climbed the clouds appeared, and the temperature
dropped
It is quite a climb to our banana stop at this abandoned
finca, much longer than I remembered it to be
We
had a short break when we reached the top, but it was too cold to hang about
for very long
A spot of artistic local route signing
The descent starts with “Fat Mans Agony”, where the path
winds through a narrow cleft in the rock
Then a small scramble section, which looks worse in the
photo than it actually is
But the worse part of the walk is the long downhill trek on
a very poor path. This takes about an
hour, and is always quite difficult.
Made worse today by a lot of mud, which made the going very slippery.
Near the end of the walk we did a detour to have a look at
an abandoned zoo. Apparently this was
started by a German who ran out of money and did a “moonlight flit”
Apparently the locals feed the abandoned animals by
collecting “past sell by date” food from shops and super markets. The animals seemed quite well fed, and there
were signs of some building repairs.
Monday 6 January 2014
Pedreguer to Castell de Axia will be the first Monday Club
walk of 2014. Meet at the usual place,
near the Ermita, at 10am.
